Advisor (f/m/d)

for “InsuResilience Global Partnership for Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance – Secretariat.”

The “InsuResilience Global Partnership ” was launched at the UN Climate Conference in Bonn in November 2017. It aims to enable countries to react more quickly after a disaster and to better prepare for climate and disaster risks through the use of risk financing and insurance instruments. This will help poor and vulnerable people to strengthen their resilience over time. The Partnership brings together the G20 and V20 countries, civil society, international organisations, private sector and academia. The InsuResilience Secretariat of the Global Partnership hosted by GIZ supports the multi-stakeholder partnership in outreach, governance and implementation activities.

Your tasks

  • Management of the global network of members of the Partnership and coordination, preparation and support of the meetings of the High Level Consultative Group
  • Supervision, evaluation and implementation of projects, concepts, research topics or other contributions in association with the coordination or lead of an expert working group
  • Coordination of research on the performance evaluation of the financial mechanisms, especially with regard to reaching the target groups (Impact evaluation)
  • Development of a concept of training and capacity building on the Global Partnership’s climate and disaster risk finance and insurance solutions with interfaces to associated mechanisms in the development area and support in the Partnership’s knowledge management
  • Supporting the communication of the Partnership through presentations, lectures in expert circles, publications and via social media
  • Concept development, coordination and implementation of the annual Partnership Forum in cooperation with members and partners
  • Support or development of partnerships between public and private organisations to develop innovative solutions
  • Advice to partner countries on climate risk finance and insurance in the larger context of disaster risk management and adaptation to climate change (e.g. preparation of statements, draft speeches, position papers, participation in discussions)

Your profile

  • University degree in international development, business administration, economics, insurance, finance, politics or the like
  • Significant work experience in the field of international climate policy and adaptation to climate change or financing mechanisms for climate adaptation (e.g. risk pools, parametric coverage solutions, microinsurance)
  • Significant experience in international cooperation (e.g. within international organisations or within industry) with proven interaction with the V20/CVF (Vulnerable 20 countries / Climate Vulnerable Forum) community
  • Diverse contacts and experience in cooperation with bilateral and multilateral donors, scientific institutions, think tanks and other civil society actors
  • Competence to develop capacity building on climate and disaster risk management including e.g. finance and insurance mechanisms
  • Result orientation and determination in dealing with new topics and questions and quick comprehension, self-organisation, problem-solving skills and flexibility
  • Empathy and pleasure in working with people of different cultures
  • Fluent German and English skills, knowledge of French or Spanish are an advantage
