Director Government Relations (m/f)

in Berlin.

SAP Global Government Relations is charged with driving perception of SAP as the world’s leading business solution provider, recognized thought leader, responsible corporate citizen, as well as business partner, vendor and investment of choice. He/She will be member of the MEE Government Relations Team (MEE GR) team which drives political relations within Middle & Eastern Europe but Germany in particular. The MEE GR is part of Global Corporate Affairs which is responsible for internal & external communications, CSR and Government Relations. The MEE GR team:

  • Promotes MEE-focused top/senior executives and spokespeople to increase visibility and influence.
  • Engages with political stakeholders / members of the public policy as trusted advisors
  • Engages together with other Corporate Affairs and business units


As a member of the MEE GR Team, the Director Government Relations Germany is responsible for SAP’s positioning as Thought Leader on ITC issues and for network building with political stakeholder and organizations, particularly with audiences from the public sector. In addition, the expert prepares SAP’s policy communications to advance mission through policy initiatives in Germany and communicates SAP´s policy positions to policy makers on selected issues of concern. He/she works closely with SAP Executives, colleagues in the global and regional communications teams, SAP business units (focus on Public Sector), field marketing teams and the field sales organizations. The Government Relations Expert will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Engaging, further building and maintaining a strong network of trusted relationships with relevant members of the public policy / governmental communities, particularly in the public sector on the federal and state level (Bund, Bundeslaender)
  • Work with SAP Deutschland management and sales team on business development strategy for key ministries and public sector entities in Germany;
  • Monitor/analyze government policies and programs that could create business opportunities for SAP; Prepare SAP position papers on eGovernment policies
  • Conduct mapping of key decision-makers and influencers in public procurement and develop strategies on how to develop relations with them;
  • Provide strategic advice to the business on how to position SAP solutions and enhance SAP value propositions to the government;
  • Position/Represent SAP at relevant eGovernment committees and conferences
  • Support Public Sector team in exploring public funding opportunities for SAP projects in Germany


  • Minimum 6 to 8 years of direct experience in Public Affairs, either in government, parliament, corporate or association environment
  • Solid network with policy makers and IT decision makers in German parliaments and governments (federal/state)
  • Profound knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues incl. already existing strong network to most important political & government reps in Germany particularly from the public sector
  • Ability to analyze, understand and prepare brief papers on complex public policy issues quickly.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute on grassroots engagements
  • Experience of working across cultures


  • Master’s degree in Politics or related studies
  • Superior oral communications and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent writing skills in German and English, analytic and presentation skills with attention to detail
    Outstanding communications skills (in German)
  • Strong program and project management skills with proven successes in building relationships with government representatives and individuals
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, including excellent customer-orientation, and an ability to deal professionally with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Solid understanding of SAP software and services; ability to translate technical features into political and social benefits that have meaning to target audience
  • Ability to grasp and interpret complex information for clear and concise communication with a range of audiences
  • A proven ability to balance multiple priorities while remaining organized in a fast paced environment
  • Flexibility including ability and willingness to build on existing knowledge
  • Self-starter with a high degree of confidence and self-motivation Salarygroup: C1-26 – C1-31 (T3-T4 Level position)
