Field of activity

The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) is a new international organization that GIZ is setting up on behalf of the German Government. The aim of ISC3 is to help foster the global breakthrough of sustainable chemistry as a concept and make a substantial contribution towards overcoming the challenges faced in the area of chemical safety and management. In so doing, it should play a key role in implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ISC3 will therefore function as a catalyst and meeting place for the international community, an international knowledge platform, a global think tank, and also a driving force and multiplier for innovations in sustainable chemistry. ISC3 is located in Bonn. Its working language is English, while its administrative language is German.

Your tasks

  • Identifying, classifying and processing topical issues and questions of political, scientific and/or social relevance for ISC3
  • Preparing issues for public relations work as well as the political work of ISC3 (issue management)
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts, especially in the chemical industry
  • Identifying, classifying and developing contacts with other initiatives in the areas of sustainable chemistry, green chemistry, chemicals management and sustainability (public affairs)
  • Developing and supporting an online platform to network contacts and discuss ISC3 issues; refining the content and contacts on the online platform, at events and in ISC3 publications on an ongoing basis; marketing the online platform on a global scale and acquiring new users; collating and processing best practice cases and relevant information for visitors to the online platform (for instance funding information)
  • Setting up a virtual marketplace in the medium term; answering questions from users and interested parties in writing and over the phone
  • Assisting with the preparation of the newsletter, managing social media channels and providing support with publications and videos (in terms of content, topics and contacts)

Your profile

  • You have a university-level degree with a focus on communications, chemistry, biology, business or political science
  • You have several years of professional experience in the area of public affairs, public relations, stakeholder management, scientific communication, media relations or network management, as well as excellent conceptual and editorial skills
  • You have a strong affinity for sustainable chemistry as well as environmental and sustainability issues; knowledge of the chemical industry would be welcome
  • You have a knowledge of the circumstances in developing countries and emerging economies
  • You have a high level of personal responsibility and are able to work independently
  • You have strong communication skills, including in an intercultural context, are a quick learner and are able to process complex specialist content
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and a good command of German
  • You have a sound knowledge of MS Office products; experience of an online dialogue tool and online network management would be an advantage
