Job description

The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) is a new international organisation that GIZ is setting up on behalf of the German Government. The aim of ISC3 is to help foster the global breakthrough of sustainable chemistry as a concept and make a substantial contribution towards overcoming the challenges faced in the area of chemical safety and management. In so doing, it should play a key role in implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ISC3 will therefore function as a catalyst and meeting place for the international community, an international knowledge platform, a global think tank, and also a driving force and multiplier for innovations in sustainable chemistry. ISC3 is located in Bonn. Its working language is English, while its administrative language is German.

Your tasks

  • Establishing and further developing communications as well as implementing and developing the agreed measures in the communications strategy
  • Planning and carrying out all communication activities conducted by the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3), in particular managing and further developing the ISC3 website, newsletter and social media channels; conducting the ISC3’s press activities, setting up a media distributor, managing international media contacts
  • Designing and delivering ISC3 releases, including videos and establishing a blog; drafting presentations and statements for ISC3 management
  • Managing internal knowledge, contacts and scheduling in the area of communications
  • Monitoring publications in the media and scientific literature on sustainable chemistry in close cooperation with project partners; working with relevant publishers and other service providers
  • Contributing to ISC3 planning, particularly to the annual planning for communications
  • Assisting with the preparation of the statement of accounts for clients and third-party donors as well as, in the medium term, the ISC3’s sustainability report; cost management and documentation for the ISC3’s communications work in line with the prescribed budget

Your profile

  • You have a university-level degree with a focus on communications, scientific communication, marketing, journalism, media studies or in a science with relevant communications experience
  • You have several years of professional experience in the area of public relations, media relations, web management and internal communications, for example in an agency, association or an international organisation
  • You have excellent conceptual and editorial skills, particularly the ability to present complex issues, both written and verbally, clearly to the target audience
  • You have an affinity for sustainable chemistry, sustainability and/or environmental issues; knowledge of the chemical industry would be an advantage
  • You are able to manage external service providers professionally
  • You have a high level of personal responsibility and are able to work independently; you are highly resilient and work efficiently, even in time-critical situations
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and a good command of German; additional foreign language skills, especially French, Spanish or Chinese are desirable
  • You have a sound knowledge of MS Office products and experience of using content management systems
